Tom's of Maine has awarded Headwaters Trails a grant to secure an option to buy property for a midpoint landing on the "Top of the Shiawassee" Water Heritage Trail. The property owner has agreed in principal to sell sufficient acreage at the point where the Shiawassee River crosses under Fish Lake Road in Holly Township (see trails map: "canoe landing"). This location will serve as a take-out for a short trip starting in Waterworks Park or the beginning of a longer float to Fenton's Strom Park through scenic wild lands.

Headwaters Trails will start a campaign to raise approximately $90,000 for purchase of the property, construction of off-road parking, building of a landing site on the river and provision of rest stop amenities.
